sky lanterns and lightning bugs are both beautiful at nightWhen beautiful lights occur in nature, there really is nothing quite as spectacular. Just like our sky lanterns, the humble Lightning Bug, otherwise known as the Firefly, light up many a summer evening, bringing joy and wonderment to all those who observe them.
Available in a range of colours (also just like our sky lanterns), you’ll see Fireflies glowing different shades depending on what time of day you manage to spot them. As the sun is setting, Fireflies with a reddish-yellow tint will come out and play, whilst those that have green illumination wait until later on in the evening to show themselves. The light itself is caused by a series of chemical reactions, triggered by different levels of natural darkness, inside the fly’s light-omitting organs, situated in the lower abdomen. Like most things in nature, although we are able to enjoy how pretty they look, the light is designed to warn off predators, as well as attract a potential mate.
With their own little ‘lanterns’ that they carry around with them, we feel the Firefly is something to be celebrated, particularly as we’re coming to the end of summer and may not see them again for a while. To capture or create a similar effect, why not organise a release of sky lanterns; get in touch and one of our team will be on hand to help arrange a delivery to your door. We look forward to hearing from you!
