These lanterns are traditionally used across Asia at festivals and celebrations and are seen as a way to release ones worries and problems with a wish, hence the name wish lanterns.
Sky lanterns are safe to use and are 99% biodegradable and non-flammable. All you have to do is light the fuel cell and gaze as the Sky Lantern floats up to the skies and after it's long flight the sky lantern will safely return to the ground.
Sky Lanterns or Chinese lanterns as they are also known stand 108cm tall and 66cm wide at its widest point.

These days, we’re becoming increasingly aware of and concerned about the need to protect the environment. Loads of us now have handy recycling bins at home, and some of us are even using our organic waste to make compost, which helps make the garden grow beautifully, and reduces our weekly rubbish load. Here at
sky lanterns, we also concerned for our precious planet, and wanted to do our bit for
Mother Earth; as we know, in matters such as this, every little helps. So, we’ve brought in something new, dear reader….
For many, the wait for our Eco Sky lanterns has been too long, as the anticipation of our fully biodegradable sky lanterns has been too much. To them we say, you need hold your breath any longer, for they have arrived and are fully available for your purchasing pleasure. The new lanterns are made with a fireproof wool fuel cell holder and a thin, light bamboo frame covered with rice paper. All of these things put together mean that any remains biodegrade very quickly, and you can enjoy sky lanterns at your special event without worrying that harm is coming to the areas surrounding the site.

There’s a new air of excitement going around the office, as last week, the Life in a Day competition, set up by
Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald, in association with YouTube, was entered by one of our great
sky lanterns chums, James. Being a dab hand at making pretty things happen with a camera and a tripod, James went about filming a day in his life, along with thousands of other hopeful film makers, on July 24th. The idea is that one single day has been documented all over the planet, as ordinary folk document what happens in their ordinary lives. The most compelling and beautiful footage will be selected to appear in an edited version at the Sundance Film Festival, giving those invited to participate great publicity and kudos.
The thing we’re most excited about, however, is the fact that James even included a shot of some of our sky lanterns being released; he gathered some friends once it got dark, and recorded them marvelling at the beautiful sight of the lanterns floating away en masse.

The Telegraph, recognises just how special
sky lanterns are, and therefore publishes an article saying that the lanterns are one of the best ways to turn a garden into a sparkling wonderland during summer evenings, all at a very decent price.
Other ways in which this is possible is by investing in some wicker torches, or flares as they’re sometimes known, and propping them all around the garden, surrounding the seating or socialising area, and giving you beautiful lighting to enjoy. We love a good party here at
Sky lanterns HQ, particularly when our lovely products are used. But we also like really special and unique events, where the host(s) and guests are really treated to something unexpected. In this week’s blog, we list our top events that we’ve been to/witnessed in the last year where our lanterns have made an appearance:
- Our Rob’s new baby Zoe’s naming day: Hog roast, loads of toys and
cake, and a display of coloured sky lanterns at dusk. What a great way to welcome little Zoe into the world.
- Other Rob’s wedding: We danced our socks off doing the ceilidh, and Helen (the new Mrs Rob) loved the surprise sky lanterns.
- The lovely moving HSBC adverts on the tube: Commuters were treating to images of sky lanterns on super electronic screens as they made their daily journey to and from Waterloo station.
- Sky lanterns being released at Glastonbury, where the weather was better than it has been in years. Many happy festival-goers were treated to the display.

Kit your bride’s maids and best man out in boots and sallopettes, and of course don’t forget to take your special pack of

We feel like we’ve heard this particular, sad scenario many times before: you’ve spent hours picking the perfect present for your loved one, you’ve carefully selected and bought the wrapping paper and of course the ribbon to make the pretty twirly bits on top….and then disaster strikes during the wrapping process. Sticky tape, as it tends to do, gets everywhere it’s not supposed to, gluing the bits of paper together, which cannot be separated without ripping it. The twirly
ribbon isn’t turning out too well, either, with it falling to pieces as soon as the scissors come anywhere near it.

Ever since we at
Sky lanterns set up shop, we’ve been hearing stories of lanterns that have been released around the globe, being mistaken for UFOs. These “sightings” have varied in location and time that the supposed UFO has been in flight, and have also sparked varying degrees of alarm. Some people have simply stopped and gazed at the strange lights floating in the sky, often in small
clusters although sometimes flying solo, and a few have even called police to the scene of the unexpected occurrence, unsure of whether a warning needs to be sent out to protect other members of the public.
So if you spot a UFO, or something similar looking, please pause for a moment before considering calling on any emergency services, as we never want to waste their time unnecessarily. Think calmly and rationally- somewhere near by, there is most likely a wonderful celebration taking place, and
Sky lanterns are being released as part of the event. Of course, our scepticism could one day be proved completely wrong, in which case we’re very sorry and you can tell our mums.

Since we opened in 2008, Sky Lanterns have been involved in making special events that much more memorable for so many of our valued clients, from being released at the end of a wedding reception, as guests make wishes for the bride and groom, to significant birthdays, celebrated with a small gathering of friends and family. Another way in which our sky lanterns have been used is in remembrance, as part of a memorial service, giving each person present the chance to say goodbye, on there own terms and with their own special wish for the person they have lost.
